The Mass we attend Sunday at North American Martyrs Parish is celebrated in the forma extraordinaria of the Roman Rite — the same form codified by Pope St. Pius V in 1570 and last revised by Pope St. John XXIII in 1962. Most of it is prayed in Latin, often quietly, with the priest facing the altar (ad orientem). Following along in the Latin and English texts below helps you enter into the prayer of the Church.
Genuflect at the words Et incarnatus est… et homo factus est in the Creed, and again at the consecration. Bow your head at the holy Name of Jesus, at the Glory be, and at the Sanctus. Strike your breast at the three Domine, non sum dignus before Communion.
After the Asperges (Sunday sprinkling rite), the priest and servers begin at the foot of the altar with the Sign of the Cross and Psalm 42, then exchange the Confiteor.

The Introit, Collect, Epistle, Gradual, and Gospel are proper to each Sunday and feast — they change from Mass to Mass. The unchanging parts are the Kyrie, Gloria, and Credo.

The priest offers the bread and wine that will become the Body and Blood of Christ. Most of these prayers are said quietly.

The Secret prayer follows silently — it changes with the Mass.
The dialogue draws the people into the great Eucharistic Prayer. The Preface itself varies (Preface of the Trinity, of Easter, of the Apostles, etc.); the Sanctus is unchanging.

The most ancient Eucharistic prayer of the Roman Rite — substantially unchanged since the time of Pope St. Gregory the Great (†604). The priest prays it silently. The bells ring at the elevation of the Host and again at the chalice. Kneel from the Sanctus through the end of the Canon.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him: and without him was made nothing that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men: and the light shineth in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to give testimony of the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but was to give testimony of the light. That was the true light, which enlighteneth every man that cometh into this world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, he gave them power to be made the sons of God, to them that believe in his name: who are born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us: and we saw his glory, the glory as of the only-begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. R. Thanks be to God.
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because of Thy just punishments, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, who art all-good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin. Amen.
